Drumming 101 is a 1 1/2 hour class on Tuesdays from 2:15-3:45pm for students in second through fifth grade. Attendance is low and a few more students are needed to keep this course available. If your student is interested please sign up NOW!
Love music? Learn how to play the drums! Explore fundamentals of rhythm, time keeping, technique, rudiments, and ear training, all while having fun listening to great songs! Designed by a music industry professional, Drumming 101 employs innovative tools, techniques, and a state-of-the-art stereo monitoring system-that will teach kids to rock!
Instructor: Jon Slatkin is a West Seattle parent and musician/producer. Present/past clients include Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot, Sundance Film Festival, YouTube. Modern Sky and EMP. Jon began his professional career at age 15 and studied with legendary drummer Jim Chapin. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Percussive Arts Society.

The registration form for Winter Enrichment has been reopened. There is a NEW JUMP ROPE CLASS on Thursday with Lafayette’s new PE Teacher, Ms. Banner. Spanish Club on Friday needs two or three more students or it will be cancelled. A few classes are full and have been closed but most are still available for registration.
Any student that raised $350 or more during the 2016 Lafayette Super Silly Fun Walk-A-Thon is being invited to a day-time frozen yogurt party courtesy of Admiral Menchie’s! Party invitations and permission slips were sent home today with each student that qualified. Lafayette sponsorships like this sure are SWEET.

It’s Movie Night at Lafayette! Students MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT at a 4:1 ratio. That’s four (4) students for every one (1) adult. The other way would be weird. There are two movies to choose from this year, both start at the same time and will end at 7:30pm.
As of November 4th, the Walk-A-Thon’s total pledges were $63,520. $45,819 has been collected with $18,031 remaining. Keep collecting and remember to return your envelopes THIS THURSDAY 11/10!
The Week 3 Popcorn Party winner is Ms. Essex’s class with $1862.25! Mr. Hodges class took the Week 4 Popcorn Party with an impressive $3,333.
This event was only successful because of the hard work of all of the students, the Lafayette staff, and the parent volunteers. It is amazing that we can come together as a community and make this happen every year. The amount of work that goes into this thing is incredible. Jen and Maya, our school is SO LUCKY to have you – thank you for all of your hard work.

The students at Lafayette are amazing! During the Walk-A-Thon’s second week of pledge counting the students brought in another $8,125! Ms. Essex’s class wins the 2nd POPCORN PARTY with $715 and they are the second 2nd grade class to do so. Second Grade is really bringing their A game this year. What’s up Fourth Grade?
There are only a few days left to get your pledges in before the day of the Walk-A-Thon on Friday, October 28th. Don’t forget that your company or organization might have a donation matching program which could double or even triple your donation!

There is a two hour early dismissal on Wednesday, October 26th at 12:05pm. There will be a “Sugar Skull Workshop” from 12:10-1:25. Use the form below to register, there are only 20 slots available.
Participants will learn about Dia de los Muertos Celebration, along the Altar significance where sugar skulls, candles, Cempazuchitl flower or Marigolds are place to honor the departed beloved ones. Participants will be guided how to decorate a pre-molded sugar skull using paint, glitter, fabric, tissue paper and papel picado or tissue paper. Program will be illustrated with books, photos and colorful memorabilia about Dia de los Muertos.
