Staff Appreciation Week May 1st to 5th

Staff Appreciation week is fast approaching!

This is a great opportunity to convey to your child’s teacher your thanks and appreciation for their hard work and dedication this year.

We’ll be organizing some ‘school wide’ activities (breakfast one morning, morning snacks, coffee break and luncheon) so keep your eyes open for future email blasts and emails from your Room Parents on how you can get involved.

Go here to sign up to volunteer to bring something or assist in one of the events.

If you have questions you can reach out to your room parent or Rachel Hagenson at her email.

PTA Meeting Thursday, Feb 16th 6:30pm BeSmart Speaker

Another way to get involved at the school is to join a PTA meeting – the next one is scheduled for this Thursday February 16th, at 6.30-8.00pm in the cafeteria (childcare provided). A summary of PTA business will be first on the schedule, and then join us for a conversation about gun violence and how we can keep our kids safe. We have a speaker from Be Smart (Gun Safety), and there will be free gun locks available!

You can read more about this important safety issue on their website www.besmartforkids.org

Logo Contest is underway! All entries due 2/17

Create something that will be a part of your school’s history!

That’s right, a logo isn’t something that is used once or twice. It becomes a
part of your schools’ history! The winner(s) of this contest will see their logo on school spirit wear, the Lafayette Elementary and PTA Web sites, plus on handouts that go home and around the school grounds for years to come!

What is a logo?

  • It QUICKLY lets people know who you are
  • It can be a simple picture or symbol
• It can be just words
• It can be words and a picture/symbol together

Think about who we are. What images come to mind? Draw them quickly. Don’t get too detailed. A logo must be able to be viewed big on a poster, or small on an envelope, so simple images work the best.

We want all your ideas and sketches. You are welcome to submit as many logo designs as you want. You can work on them with a friend too!

The winner(s) of the contest will get an opportunity to work with a professional design team to take their logo from a sketch on a piece of paper to a finished design!

Please make sure you include your full name, grade and room number on all the logos you submit for the contest.

SUBMIT ALL ENTRIES TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE BY FEBRUARY 17, 2017

Meet the New P.E. Teacher Mrs. Banner!

In December, the school hired a new P.E. teacher and we wanted to make sure the community had a chance to meet her.  Get ready for more fun in the gym and some Ultimate Frisbee with Mrs. Banner!

“Hello! My name is Mrs. Banner I am excited to be joining the Lafayette team as the new Physical Education teacher. I chose to come to Lafayette School because when I first visited there was such an amazing positive atmosphere and everyone was very welcoming. Before coming here I was teaching elementary PE in Phnom Penh, Cambodia where I got to experience teaching in very warm weather. I have really enjoyed Seattle since I have moved here as there are so many outdoor activities to do such as Skiing, Hiking, Cycling, Kayaking and much more!  I cannot wait to explore Seattle more.

My vision for PE at Lafayette would be that I would like to have students develop a positive attitude towards physical education that will last a lifetime. I have many sports that I enjoy playing for example hockey, soccer, basketball and more but if I had to pick one sport that is my favorite, it would have to be Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate stresses the importance of sportsmanship and fair play, which makes playing really fun. It also has a great community and is just an amazing game to play. I hope to coach the first Lafayette Ultimate team! “
