Remember that next week on Wednesday, May 10th it is early dismissal for Seattle Public Schools. School is dismissed at 12:05pm. There will be no After school enrichment this day.

2017 Spring Enrichment is Open for Enrollment!

Get ready for some serious fun this spring! 

Registration is open for the Spring Session that begins Monday, April 3rd and ends Friday, June 16th (unless otherwise noted due to school early dismissal and mid-winter break).  Click here to Enroll Now  or you can see the descriptions for the classes here and then enroll by March 27th.

Note: No Classes on the following days:

  • Week of April 10th-14th (No school – Spring break)
  • Wednesday May 10th (2-hour early dismissal)
  • Monday May 29th (No school – Memorial Day)

Full and Partial Scholarships are available to families who request them, no questions asked, for one class per child per session. Please note that scholarships are funded through the proceeds of the PTA Enrichment Program itself, i.e. from all of our families. The goal is to be all-inclusive but also self-sustaining. Please carefully consider the needs of your family when deciding whether to request a scholarship. Scholarship requests will be kept confidential. If the demand for scholarships is too great, the PTA may need to limit the number of scholarships awarded.

  • Registrations are due by Monday, March 27th. One registration per child.
  • Classes with a stated maximum limit will be determined by lottery. Late registrations will be considered by PTA Enrichment coordinator.
  • Two ways to register: On line (processed in real time) OR paper enrollment (processed at same time as on line). If enrolling by paper, please fill out and hand in last two pages of this document to the PTA Command Center’s Drop Slot. Parents will receive an email confirmation prior to the start of the session

Drumming 101 needs students

Drumming 101 is a 1 1/2 hour class on Tuesdays from 2:15-3:45pm for students in second through fifth grade. Attendance is low and a few more students are needed to keep this course available. If your student is interested please sign up NOW!

Love music? Learn how to play the drums! Explore fundamentals of rhythm, time keeping, technique, rudiments, and ear training, all while having fun listening to great songs! Designed by a music industry professional, Drumming 101 employs innovative tools, techniques, and a state-of-the-art stereo monitoring system-that will teach kids to rock!

Instructor: Jon Slatkin is a West Seattle parent and musician/producer. Present/past clients include Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot, Sundance Film Festival, YouTube. Modern Sky and EMP. Jon began his professional career at age 15 and studied with legendary drummer Jim Chapin. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Percussive Arts Society.

Winter Enrichment Registration Reopened

The registration form for Winter Enrichment has been reopened. There is a NEW JUMP ROPE CLASS on Thursday with Lafayette’s new PE Teacher, Ms. Banner. Spanish Club on Friday needs two or three more students or it will be cancelled. A few classes are full and have been closed but most are still available for registration.

Winter Enrichment is now Open!

Registration is now open for the Winter Session that begins Monday, January 9th and ends Friday, March 24th (unless otherwise noted due to school early dismissal and mid-winter break).  Go to the Enrichment page to learn more about the classes!  

There are some fun new classes this session like Science Successors, Dodgeball and How to Become a Great Writer.  There will be Rope Jumping, Chess, Guitar, Lego Mindstorm, Robotics, Spanish, Mandarin, plus many more!!

Note: There are more sessions this Winter so you will notice some price increases. Scholarships are available.

Trendy Crafts Thanksgiving

Join Trendy Crafts on Wednesday November 16 for a special afternoon of crafting and socializing.  We will create Thanksgiving inspired projects to keep and share with loved ones. 6 participants minimum & 24 max.

The Art of Lettering

Program Description: Students will create and personalize a Note, Thank you note, Birthday card by  the Art of  Calligraphy.  Participants will get some practice to basic strokes using calligraphy pens, papers and inks to use.

10 participants minimum & 20 max.

Walk-A-Thon: The Second “Super Silly Fun” Week

Lafayette Walk-A-Thon 2016

The students at Lafayette are amazing! During the Walk-A-Thon’s second week of pledge counting the students brought in another $8,125! Ms. Essex’s class wins the 2nd POPCORN PARTY with $715 and they are the second 2nd grade class to do so. Second Grade is really bringing their A game this year. What’s up Fourth Grade?

There are only a few days left to get your pledges in before the day of the Walk-A-Thon on Friday, October 28th. Don’t forget that your company or organization might have a donation matching program which could double or even triple your donation!

The Walk-A-Thon’s Snack/Bake Sale needs your help!

Bring your healthy snacks and baked goods to the Snack/Bake Sale at the Lafayette playground THIS Friday, October 28th. If you need assistance or want ideas about what to bring, contact Chris Hanson. Students who get more than $350 in pledges will get invited to an Admiral Menchie’s Party. Admiral Menchie’s has donated these parties for the past few years and is a Lafayette Platinum Sponsor! Thank you Admiral Menchie’s!

Walk-A-Thon T-Shirts

Walk-A-Thon T-Shirts will be for sale on the playground during the Walk-A-Thon for $10. If you would like to purchase an extra T-Shirt but will be unable to attend the Walk-A-Thon, email WAT@lafayettepta.com.

Week Two Fun Facts

  • Total flat donations for Week Two = $8,125
  • Ms. Rowlett’s 2nd grade class had highest total for Week Two = $715
  • First graders had the largest total donations for Week Two = $1,644
  • Largest total pledges submitted by one person = $348
  • Total number of pledges for Week Two = 390 (309 last week!)
  • Pledges came from 100% of the classrooms
  • Kindergarten and 4th grade classes TIE for the largest number of pledges in the week = 79

Important Walk-A-Thon Dates and Times

Friday, October 28th
Day of Walk-A-Thon! Pledge Envelopes are DUE IN CLASS BY 8:15am. Pledges that come in after 8:15am will be counted the following week. Students will receive a FREE Lafayette Walk-A-Thon T-Shirt and walk with their classmates for 30 minutes! Walk times:

  • 3rd Grade walks from 8:15-8:45am
  • 2nd Grade walks from 9:00-9:30am
  • 1st Grade walks from 9:45-10:15am
  • There is a break from 10:15-10:45am
  • Kindergarten walks from 11:00-11:30am
  • 4th Grade walks from 11:45am-12:15pm
  • 5th Grade walks from 12:30-1:00pm

Early Release Sugar Skull Workshop

There is a two hour early dismissal on Wednesday, October 26th at 12:05pm.  There will be a “Sugar Skull Workshop” from 12:10-1:25. Use the form below to register, there are only 20 slots available.

Participants will learn about Dia de los Muertos Celebration, along the Altar significance where sugar skulls, candles, Cempazuchitl flower or Marigolds are place to honor the departed beloved ones. Participants will be guided how to decorate a pre-molded sugar skull using paint, glitter, fabric, tissue paper and papel picado or tissue paper. Program will be illustrated with books, photos and colorful memorabilia about Dia de los Muertos.
