Leopard Leaders Celebrating Literacy on October 31st
Leopard Leaders are sponsoring a literacy character day. Students have been learning about character traits in their literacy classes which is linked to Common Core: Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to the characters, setting, and plot; provide an objective summary of the text.
As part of the learning, the Leopard Leaders are sponsoring a Spirit Day in which students are able to dress like their favorite literacy character. This is optional for all students, however the discussion around character traits will be part of the lesson for that day and all students will be expected to discuss their character and how their traits, actions and emotions are part of the story. The request is no masks, props or weapons be part of the accessories. Please be sure that if your child has PE they have the appropriate shoes.

Thank you Renee Rhone for being the Walk-A-Thon Spreadsheet Chair! If you happen to meet her around the school, tell her “I know what you’ve done and I think its amazing!” It takes a ton of volunteers to make this event successful, you can be rad like Renee – just sign up to volunteer for something.
The first week of the Walk-A-Thon’s pledge drive is off to a great start! The students raised $6,850 in the first week. Ms. Sacco-Neel’s 2nd Grade Class in Room 8 won a popcorn party for raising $1,520! Way to go Room 8! Keep those pledges rolling in, the goal this year is $60,000 which works out to be about $150 per student. This money is very important at Lafayette to fund classroom tutors, playground supervisors, instrumental music, field trips, school nurse’s assistant, school counselor, student government, and more. Thank you for your support.
The Walk-A-Thon’s success is only possible with parent and community involvement. There are many ways for YOU to volunteer; opportunities are available before, during, and after the event. Volunteering for the Walk-A-Thon is a GREAT way to meet other parents and get to know some of the students.
The pledge drive for the 2016 Walk-A-Thon has officially begun! Good luck! Make your pledges online at http://lafayettepta.com/pledge, and send the link to your friends and relatives that might live too far to visit in person!
Here are some sample scripts that you or your students can use to help get pledges.
