School Levy Information: Input needed and Encouraged!

Planning for the 2019 Levies Election

In February 2019, Seattle voters will be asked to renew two  levies to fund Seattle Public Schools — a Capital Levy and an Operations Levy.

Planning is currently underway for the Building Excellence V (BEX V) Capital Levy. The six-year levy would replace the expiring Building Excellence IV (BEX IV) Capital Levy approved by voters in 2013. BEX V would fund capital improvements including projects to modernize or replace aging buildings with modern, operationally efficient educational facilities. BEX V would also fund technology for student learning, district systems, and infrastructure and security.

The district is also planning for the three-year Operations Levy, which would replace the current Operations Levy approved by Seattle voters in 2016. This levy helps fund day-to-day operations and pays for critical programs and services that are not fully funded by the state.

We want your input

Nominations for Golden Acorn Award Due 4/24

What is a Golden Acorn Award? A Golden Acorn Award is presented by a local PTA or council to a school or community volunteer in recognition of her or his dedication and service to children and youth. Since the beginning of this program in the 1930s, more than 54,000 Golden Acorn Awards have been presented to volunteers throughout Washington state. Recipients receive a certificate and pin, and a contribution is made in their name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Program that benefits students.”

The Lafayette PTA is proud to continue the tradition of recognizing a Golden Acorn recipient(s) from our school again this year.  A Golden Acorn is a very special award given by our PTA to individuals who have given outstanding volunteer service and shown dedication to our children and youth.  Candidates are required to be PTA members, demonstrate service to all students, and their volunteer service generally extends into the community in addition to their service through PTA and the school environment.  Each individual chosen to receive this award will receive a hand-painted gold pin in the shape of an acorn; a special certificate and a $70 contribution will be made in their name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Foundation.  These funds provide scholarships for post-secondary students.  We would like you to participate in the selection of our award recipients(s) through your recommendations.  Nominations will be accepted from now through April 24, 2018 by completing the form below.  Our Golden Acorn Award committee will make the final selection.

We are looking for parents that have gone above and beyond in their contributions to the Lafayette community, who enrich our school and who leave a strong legacy for others to follow. This award is about appreciation of their dedication and the positive impact that they have made.

Thank you!

Lafayette PTA
