It’s time to get ready for Thanksgiving! Consider a PCC Scrip Card where 5% of your purchases go directly to the Lafayette PTA! These cards come loaded with $20 and still earn 5% for the school when they are refilled. Earning money for the school while providing your family with fresh, healthy food is awesome!
This Thursday 11/19, after the 6.30pm PTA meeting, we are very lucky to have engaged Mia Beck of Mind Blowing Transformation to speak with us for 90 minutes from 7-8.30pm in the cafeteria. Childcare is provided in the gym.
Here is what Mia will be addressing:
“What Children Wish Their Parents Knew”
Simple and easy strategies to solve everyday challenges with your child and clarity on how best to support them:
– How to deal with bullies in real life and on-line
– Positive communication with your child
– What your child needs most from you
– Why children lie to their parents, and how to avoid it.
“My message is very hands-on because I open up and share real life stories from my life as a family coach working with families who overcame the same things as the parents at your schools are dealing with. Such as: Kids ignoring them/having to repeat themselves a ton of times, their child’s lack of motivation, lack of respect, anger issues, their kid falling behind on school work, or crying and refusing to go to school because of bullying, etc. etc. One thing I can guarantee is that parents always walk away with a head spinning with new ideas and a lot of insight to the dynamics in their own house.”
Please come – these are our fundraising dollars at work, and a fabulous opportunity to come together as a parenting community and learn from someone who works daily with families and kids of all ages on challenging situations.

Picture day order forms recently came home from school, so make sure you remember to make your selections and return your forms and payment before Picture Day on Monday, September 28th. If you need a replacement form you can find one in the school’s office.
Lafayette is in need of tutors. They will be hiring at least two tutors for paid positions with flexible hours. Lafayette tutors assist all grade levels and help individuals and small groups with class assignments and projects under the guidance of the classroom teacher. If you are interested, please send an email to Dr. Ybarra (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Please congratulate Silas Jones and Zhaiarah Holiday Thompson for being selected to represent Lafayette Elementary at the upcoming WITS Student Reading & Celebration! Silas and Zhaiarah will read their work on Wednesday, May 20th at 6pm in the downtown branch of the Seattle Public Library. The reading is free and open to the public.
Dear Lafayette Families,
Our school’s new door buzzer has been installed and is fully operational. Beginning Monday, May 11, 2015 the front door will be locked from 9:10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon. If you need access to the building during these hours you must use the door buzzer, and office staff will grant access once your identity has been verified. This new system will not impact morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up. The outside gates will be locked from 9:35 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily. Outside gates will be unlocked for afterschool pick-up and locked again at 4:00 p.m. daily. Thank you for your support in keeping safety a priority in our community.
