You can hear the music of French composer Erik Satie (1866-1925) in Lafayette’s front hall. Satie spent much of his time exchanging ideas with artists and composers in the cafes of Paris. Throughout his life, he wanted to create music that mixed ancient melodies with new ideas, following no rules but his own.
The composer for February is Felix Mendelssohn. He followed in the footsteps of Beethoven and filled his music with emotions and feelings, painting a picture with music of the many places he traveled; the Highlands of Scotland, the wild ocean waves bouncing off a cave, gondola boats floating in Venice, and even the magical forests in Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Please ask your kids if they had a chance to learn about and hear Mendelssohn’s music this month.

Preparations are well underway for the Luna Park Boardwalk Night on March 9, 2013.
The live auction generates the majority of the funds raised. Each classroom is providing an art project for this part of the event and we are hoping to auction off some other great items. Do you have something fantastic to donate to our live auction that will raise money for Lafayette? Donations could include: local sports tickets, a jersey, a vacation home or timeshare week, airline points or vouchers, dinner or hotel certificates, ski passes, or that ping pong table folded up in your basement. Or would you be willing to host a special wine-tasting and/or dinner in your home? These were wildly popular items at last year’s auction!
If you have something you would like to donate, please contact Sarah Dillard, fill out a donation form in the office, or donate using our online form. Fill it out, click the “Donate Now” button, and you’re done!. All donations are tax deductible and will receive a receipt.
The Lafayette Elementary PTA auction supports the great programs and resources that help our children succeed. We need your help to make this a successful fundraiser!
Tickets are on sale now! Only $65 until February 19 and $75 thereafter. Ticket price includes dinner, an auction bid number, and two raffle tickets which can be used for carnival games or drinks. Fill out an invitation form (children should have brought them home) and drop it off in the main office with your payment, or purchase your tickets online!

As the saying goes…it takes a village. Ok, well hopefully not an entire village, but we sure could use a few volunteers to help us make the 2013 Lafayette Auction a success! If you think you would like to help us make this fun event the most successful auction yet, we want you! We are looking for parents or family members who are willing to help with multiple jobs before, during and after the event. These jobs range from event setup or making bid sheets to being a “runner” or registrations person. After the event we will need assistance with breakdown and haul-off. We would appreciate any help that you are willing to provide! Also if you have a flair with décor and/or design the auction committee is looking for a “Decorations chair or chairs”! Here is your chance to give a little of your time to support Lafayette – please consider volunteering. Questions about the event, available volunteer jobs or just to volunteer, please use the form below to contact Kathy Wimer. And thanks in advance for your consideration![contact-form to=’email@example.com’][contact-field label=’Name’ type=’name’ required=’1’/][contact-field label=’Email’ type=’email’ required=’1’/][contact-field label=’Comment’ type=’textarea’/][/contact-form]
The third annual auction will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Hall at Fauntleroy from 5:30 – 11:00 PM. This year’s event has the theme Luna Park Boardwalk Night. There will be a mini silent auction, a live auction (hopefully including art from every classroom), dessert dash and several games of chance. This will be a great opportunity for parents and staff to get to know each other a little better and build community – while raising a little money for our great school! Tickets will be $65 per person and include a lovely dinner catered by Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes. More information about how to purchase your tickets will be available shortly.
