Dear Lafayette Families,
It is with great delight that I write to you as the newly appointed Assistant Principal of Lafayette Elementary School. It is my sincere pleasure and honor to be able to assist our principal, Mr. Robert Gallagher, in making this one of the best school years ever. I am looking forward to working with the enthusiastic and devoted Lafayette staff to provide the best possible educational experiences for our students.
I began my educational career fifteen years ago as a high school English teacher and have taught grades K-12 in public schools in both Los Angeles and Seattle. I have worked as a classroom teacher in grades K-12, a university professor in the field of education, and as a coach and mentor for other teachers. I graduated from Whittier College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Education. I then went on to earn my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from California State University, Fullerton.
Lafayette Elementary enjoys a rich history of student and family engagement that is a direct result of the partnership between the school staff and parents who provide a diversity of experiences for the students. During my first two years at Lafayette as a kindergarten, first grade, and Mentor Teacher, I have found this close working relationship to be the foundation of this community. It was a pleasure working with and getting to know the students, staff and parents at Lafayette over the last two years and I look forward to continuing our work and to meeting all of the new families who will be joining our community.
Parents, teachers, support staff, community and administration all have important roles in encouraging our children to become active, life-long learners. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens in our vastly changing society. Through a close and collegial partnership with the Lafayette Elementary community, I am confident we can ensure our school is a place where students learn and grow.
Please feel free to stop in and say hello, as my door is always open. If there is anything I can assist you with, please feel free to let me know. I hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer break, and I wish you a terrific upcoming school year.
Dr. Christine Ybarra
