Positive Discipline is a parenting program designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful, and resourceful members of their communities. Based on the best-selling Positive Discipline parenting books by Dr. Jane Nelsen, the program teaches important social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both children and adults. Parenting with Positive Discipline means being kind and firm at the same time, which is effective long-term and helps children feel a connection — a sense of belonging and significance.
Our school counselor, Kenna Hart, is offering a 6-week Positive Discipline Parenting Class on Wednesdays (5/1, 5/8, 5/15, 5/22, 5/29 and 6/5) from 8-9 am. This class will help you learn the basic parenting approach of the Positive Discipline model by engaging in group activities and discussions. I understand that 6 weeks is a big commitment; the program is designed to not only build upon your parenting skills, but we will also get to know each other, build community, and learn together. It’s imperative that you commit to attending all 6 classes. I also understand that having this class during the school day limits who can participate; I am truly sorry and hope to offer an evening class in the future.
