PTA Meeting Recap: Feb 13, 2023
Thank you to all who attended the PTA General meeting on Monday, 2/13/23. For those of you who were unable to attend, you were missed!
We learned a LOT from Casie Dimsey on Lafayette’s Safety Policies & Procedures which will be shared in a forthcoming note. The folks in attendance also approved the addition of funds for a new PA system & video conferencing (to be used for Move-a-Thon, Field Day, Graduation, Assemblies, Dance parties, Kinder play dates, etc.) and fun community building events such as assemblies, skate nights for all grades, & a potential Admiral Theater movie night.
Without further ado, here are a few highlights to keep you in the loop for upcoming events & volunteer opportunities.
FEB 28TH Join us for Family Trivia Night at Lafayette Elementary School in the cafeteria. Doors will open at 6:30pm and Trivia begins at 7pm. Bring your own dinner or snacks as food will not be provided. We’d love to see this be successful and potentially offer Family Trivia Nights on a regular basis.
MAR 14TH PTA is sponsoring "Family Game Night" hosted by Meeples in the Lafayette Cafeteria from 6:30-8pm. They will bring the games so all you need to do is bring your happy smiling faces and some family & friends to play with.
MAR 17TH PTA is also sponsoring an all-school assembly with a fun physics lesson where students will learn about gravity while sending angry birds flying through the air and much more.
SPRING ENRICHMENT SURVEY We are nearly half-way through our first Enrichment season for the year and we are so excited to be able to offer a fresh season of after-school enrichment classes starting in April 2023. We would love to hear from YOU! What classes would you love to see available for Lafayette kiddos this spring? Please take a moment to respond to our brief enrichment survey below. It will really help us when putting together the spring schedule! https://lafayettepta.wufoo.com/forms/m1uxcg5x0sr0ro7/
DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION Lafayette PTA is looking to build a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee where volunteers will share their voice and co-create change. This committee will address issues in and around the building that may limit or exclude community members with special needs, identify & purchase books for the library featuring BIPOC/LGBTQIA+/characters with disabilities for classroom use, provide resources/virtual libraries for families with diverse authors + experts, collaborate and ideate with SPS schools and engage with the West Seattle Public School Equity Fund, and overall communicate & support families with resources to navigate difficult topics. Please reach out to Sadie Schnitzler for more information at sadie.om@gmail.com.
